Ruins in Paradise

A nation of Ruins, the people reflect
I won’t follow a life to be wrecked
Leave it behind says the voice in her ear
It was beautiful, then comes a shadow
The beat never stops even as people fall
Ruins, ruins, ruins, have we seen them all?
Some are buildings some are lives
From behind a smile, Athena’s ruin cries
Are we trapped in the temple, to turn to dust?
Has the soul fallen from strength and turned to lust?
What is important, the spirit in hand?
Or the one that drives to take a different stand?
Leave it behind let time bury it away
Maybe it’s better we aren’t here for excavation day
Just go out and party, sing and shout
Forget uniting, even if this must be the way out
It is paradise make no mistake
But careful this paradise your soul does not take
See the ruins, ghosts all around
Her course may be set, but is the direction sound?
